Counselling & Psychotherapy Leek - Karen Price

Counselling and psychotherapy is a wonderful way for individuals and couples to AFFECT profound and lasting changes to improve the quality of their lives.

Therapy is a very intimate and personal journey, it is therefore imperative that you feel secure, confident and comfortable with your therapist. Typically, the initial consultation enables you to gain a feel for the process and the therapist, allowing you to decide if therapy is right for you.

What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?

  • There is a large overlap between counselling and psychotherapy with similar skills used in both approaches. Each is enriching and can help you to cope with problems in a more effective way.
  • Counselling tends to be shorter term and may focus on a specific problem.
  • Psychotherapy involves an in-depth exploration of your past experiences in order to make sense of your present life circumstances.  It tends to be longer term therapy allowing you time to work through the underlying distress.

Both approaches encompass:

  • being understood in a supportive, non-judgemental and confidential environment, where you can explore and gain a deeper understanding of yourself and others, with the help of your therapist.
  • an opportunity to make sense of your past and consider how you respond to the present and prepare for the future.
  • helping you to find your own way of living in a more satisfying and resourceful way.
